Luis Caballero (1943 - 1995)

Luis Caballero Holguín was born in Bogota, Colombia on August 27, 1943. He studied Fine Arts at the Universidad de los Andes since 1961 and was influenced by Juan Antonio Roda and Marta Traba. Caballero traveled to France in 1963 to enroll at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere and studied the art of De Kooning and Francis Bacon. His art became very sought after for his depictions of male nudes with a high erotic content. In 1995 he returned to Bogota and died on June 19th due to brain syndrome that had rendered him handicapped.
