Marc Lalique
(1900 - 1977)

Marc Lalique, born in 1900 in Paris, was the son of René Lalique and Alice Ledru, as well as the brother of Suzanne Lalique-Haviland. Marc played a crucial role in transitioning the production of the family glass business to crystal in the early 1950s.

Endowed with technical skills, Marc Lalique studied at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs in Paris before joining the family business in 1922. His technical prowess made him a highly competent technician, and he made frequent visits to the factory in Wingen-sur-Moder to oversee new production techniques.

Following his father's passing in 1945, Marc took over the leadership of the company. His technical focus and knowledge led him to renovate and modernize the factory in Wingen-sur-Moder. Thanks to his efforts, Lalique quickly became one of the top crystal manufacturers not only in France but worldwide. Lalique's distinctive feature was the contrast between absolute transparency and satin-like brilliance, which became a hallmark both domestically and abroad.

Among Marc Lalique's most famous pieces is the Angel vase, inspired by the smiling Angel of the Reims Cathedral, referencing the Lalique family's origins in the Champagne region. He also created the iconic perfume bottle L'Air du Temps for Nina Ricci.

Marc Lalique passed away in 1977, leaving his daughter Marie-Claude in charge of Cristallerie Lalique. His legacy lives on in the brand, which continues to be a symbol of excellence in the production of crystal and luxury items.
