Manuel de la Garza (1903 - 1988)

Born in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, he joined the "Club de Oleo y Acuarela" (Oil and Watercolor Club) in 1946 alongside Joaquin A. Mora and Constantino de Tarnava. He was a founding member of the Taller de Artes Graficas of the Universidad de Nuevo Leon. He motivated his peers to take excursions into the hills and mountains of the region to find new landscapes to paint. He was particularly known for his beautiful renditions in watercolor. In 1987 the Government of Nuevo Leon awarded this artist the Civic Merit Medal, a distinction awarded to people who have a legacy in humanitarian, educational or artistic fields. His work is now part of private and public collections in Mexico and abroad.
