Luis Saez (1925)

Born in Mazuelo de Muñó, Burgos, Spain. He studied at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid since 1946 and started exhibiting his work a year later. His first solo-show was at the Sala Municipal de Arte in Burgos in 1951 and he's had a long career since then exhibiting at many of the most noted galleries in Spain and abroad. He was awarded his first recognition in 1972 when he obtained the Premio Nacional de Dibujo Pancho Cossio. Mr. Saez was also the recipient of the Premio Castilla y Leon de las Artes in 1990. His work took shape in the late 50's and early 60's in the style of abstract expressionism. Later it transgressed into the surreal with themes reminiscent of still life but with other elements to gain more figurative compositions. His work was the subject of a retrospective exhibition by the Caja de Burgos in early 2000 and is now part of permanent collections in Museums such as Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid, Museo de Arte Moderno in Barcelona and Museo de Toledo among others.
